Peru is on the verge of declaring a national emergency. An unexpected recurrence of the El Niño phenomenon is wreaking havoc with the weather all over the country.
Lima (the capital) flooded yesterday in areas; Chimbote and Trujillo (northern coast), yesterday. Many other areas of the country are either under water or about to be. We were forced to send the Bible School students home early last night so that they wouldn't be cut off from their homes.
I just got off the phone with Pastor Mendoza, in Chimbote, and he told me that –though they were spared the brunt of new flooding today– they are running low on food there; supplies can't get through, and prices are going through the roof.
Over in the jungle, the Amazon River is also on the verge of flooding. Some of its main tributaries are already at Red Alert. This comes on the heels of recent historic flooding, just last year.
Please pray for Peru, especially for the Saints of God, but for the whole nation, as well...over 60 have perished already.
